Edward Street School Crossing

The Edwardstown Primary School Crossing on Edward Street has consistently been raised with me as a worrying location by members of the school community and nearby residents.

As a local road, Edward Street is under the care and responsibility of the City of Mitcham, so I have been advocating to Council to see this crossing upgraded. I have also written to the former Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and the Minister responsible for Road Safety. Our local Federal MP, Louise Miller-Frost, has also written to the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport to bring this crossing to her attention.

After years of listening to local residents and the school community and advocating on their behalf, I am incredibly proud to share we have secured funding to upgrade this crossing to a Pedestrian Actuated Crossing!

The new crossing will include traffic lights with countdown for crossing timers, pedestrian ramps, safety fencing, line marking and audible push buttons. Once complete, we’ll also be introducing the new 40km/h time-based school speed limits in line with similar changes to Goodwood Road and Cross Road.
